Winter Fellowship "Mad Scientist" Weekend

Hey, everyone!  I am here to tell you about all the fun you missed if you didn’t go to the Lodge Winter Fellowship at Chesterfield this past weekend.

The theme for the weekend was "mad science".   We had a self crushing can that crushed itself when you used heat and cold water.    We did a diet coke and Mentos experiment that didn’t go like we planned.  We also poured milk, oil and food coloring into a plate and touched it with a cotton swab and it separated - now that’s mad science!  We were popping the bubbly bottles… well, not really - they were empty and we tried to pull the cork out with a bag.  After a lot of practice, that one was easy.

We also had great food and a cracker barrel the night we got there.  For breakfast, we made eggs and bacon and the famous spuds.  For lunch on Saturday, we had pulled pork sandwiches and for dinner it was lasagna.

One of the highlights of the weekend was a very informative presentation made by Harris Tanner about the history of Allogagan Lodge.  On Saturday night, we watched the movie National Treasure in the T-lodge.  Early Sunday morning, several people left to attend the Quality Lodge Summit and Council of Chiefs meeting.  All in all, everyone had a great time.

Your Lodge Secretary,
Warren Castonguay

Council Of Chiefs and Quality Lodge Seminar

Lodge Chief Nate Morin along with Lodge Adviser Al Parent, Associate Adviser Bob Walz and Staff Adviser Bob Gunnells attended the Section NE-1B QLS (Quality Lodge Seminar) and COC (Council of Chiefs) meeting in Pomfret CT on January 20th.
Nate made a presentation to the COC on the activities of the Lodge since the last COC in October.  The main business item for the COC was the NE-1B Conclave in June.  A patch design was decided on (a scallop shell shape that emphasizes the theme 'Conclave's A Beach').  Conclave quota's were set.  Be sure and sign up early, Memsochet Lodge has only 25 spots available.  We expect to fill every spot since this year's conclave is at Greenough Scout Reservation on the Cape.

ArrowCorps 5

The Order of the Arrow is putting on a huge service project in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service in the summer of 2008. It is ArrowCorps5 and will consist of five separate projects on national forest land across the country with about 1,000 participants at each site.

Visit the official ArrowCorps5 site for details about each site and registration information.

The five sites are:
  • Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri on June 7-14

  • Manti-La Sal National Forest in Utah on June 14-21

  • George Washington & Jefferson National Forests in Virginia on June 21-28

  • Shasta-Trinity National Forest in California on July 12-19

  • Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming on July 26-August 2

The only way to participate is by going through your council - no individual registrations are accepted. Contact Bob Gunnells if you are interested in attending.

There are patches available for each project site and you can order them at OA Trading Post even if you are not a participant.

ArrowCorps5 is open for both youth and adult OA members.
