Order of the Arrow Elections

honor2.gifBoy Scout Troops can have one election each year to elect youth members into the OA. (Assistant Scoutmasters under the age of 21 are considered youth members for OA purposes).  Elections must be conducted by an active member of Memsochet Lodge who is knowledgeable of and qualified to conduct an OA election.  If you troop has no active OA members, that’s OK, Memsochet Lodge will be glad to assist you - just contact one of the Lodge officers or advisers.

Memsochet Lodge asks that elections take place between January 1st and May 15th so that the newly elected candidate has ample time to plan on attending the Ordeal weekend in June.  In order for an election to be held, at least 50% of your active youth members must be present – if less than 50% are present, the election must be rescheduled. Units are urged to schedule an OA election team from Memsochet Lodge to conduct the election, contact one of the Lodge officers or advisers.

Winter Fellowship "Mad Scientist" Weekend

Hey, everyone!  I am here to tell you about all the fun you missed if you didn’t go to the Lodge Winter Fellowship at Chesterfield this past weekend.

The theme for the weekend was "mad science".   We had a self crushing can that crushed itself when you used heat and cold water.    We did a diet coke and Mentos experiment that didn’t go like we planned.  We also poured milk, oil and food coloring into a plate and touched it with a cotton swab and it separated - now that’s mad science!  We were popping the bubbly bottles… well, not really - they were empty and we tried to pull the cork out with a bag.  After a lot of practice, that one was easy.

We also had great food and a cracker barrel the night we got there.  For breakfast, we made eggs and bacon and the famous spuds.  For lunch on Saturday, we had pulled pork sandwiches and for dinner it was lasagna.

One of the highlights of the weekend was a very informative presentation made by Harris Tanner about the history of Allogagan Lodge.  On Saturday night, we watched the movie National Treasure in the T-lodge.  Early Sunday morning, several people left to attend the Quality Lodge Summit and Council of Chiefs meeting.  All in all, everyone had a great time.

Your Lodge Secretary,
Warren Castonguay

Council Of Chiefs and Quality Lodge Seminar

Lodge Chief Nate Morin along with Lodge Adviser Al Parent, Associate Adviser Bob Walz and Staff Adviser Bob Gunnells attended the Section NE-1B QLS (Quality Lodge Seminar) and COC (Council of Chiefs) meeting in Pomfret CT on January 20th.
Nate made a presentation to the COC on the activities of the Lodge since the last COC in October.  The main business item for the COC was the NE-1B Conclave in June.  A patch design was decided on (a scallop shell shape that emphasizes the theme 'Conclave's A Beach').  Conclave quota's were set.  Be sure and sign up early, Memsochet Lodge has only 25 spots available.  We expect to fill every spot since this year's conclave is at Greenough Scout Reservation on the Cape.
